The Questions (Part One of ???)

09/21/23

I bought a set of questions recently, in the hopes that working through them will help me learn to love myself more and/or know myself better. I figured I might as well work through these questions on this blog.

“What have you grown to love about yourself?”

my smile. I had super uneven teeth when I was younger, and I had two front teeth that stuck ALL the way out. I remember being at a friend’s house for a party hosted by their parents when I was in elementary school, and some other kid there told me I had moose teeth. which like, incredibly creative burn on her end, but it stung so badly at the time and I was so self-conscious of my smile. I had braces for what felt like forever and I think I spent so much time walking around worrying about my big mouth and big teeth and crooked smile. but I’ve really grown to love my smile. it’s big, certainly, but I think it’s also kind and inviting and friendly and puts other people at ease. moose teeth or not, I wish I’d been nicer to my younger self when I looked at myself in the mirror.

things I am grateful for: dentists and orthodontists; braces; and reasons to smile
